Discover an exceptional Roanoke-area collection of fine art, highlighted by original works and limited-edition pieces from many artists closely associated with Roanoke, Salem, Blacksburg, Botetourt County and Southwest Virginia, complemented by Japanese woodblocks and other distinctive works from around the world.
The collection features an impressive selection by renowned Roanoke artist and illustrator Walter Biggs, including Two Ladies and a Man, 323 Blvd House, Horse Show, architectural drawings, figurative studies and original pencil and watercolor works. Also prominently represented is Greg Osterhaus, with original oils including No Less No More, Blacksburg Grouping and pastoral cattle scenes.
Southwest Virginia landscapes take center stage in works by Mark R. Woodie, including Tinker Mountain Springtime, Broom Sedge Hillside – Botetourt County and Sunset Three Cedars. Collectors of Roanoke and Salem history will also find numerous signed etchings by Harold Little, depicting familiar regional subjects including Kirk Avenue in Roanoke and the historic Fort Lewis Hotel in Salem.
Additional Virginia and regional works include paintings by J. Vance Miller, including Sharptop in Winter, along with William Meade Prince, John Will Creasy, Eric Fitzpatrick and Sandra K. Brunk. Historic local imagery includes Edward Beyer's A View of Salem in 1855 and artwork celebrating landmarks throughout Roanoke and Salem.
Beyond the strong Virginia focus is an outstanding group of Paul Jacoulet woodblock prints, including Nuit de Neige, Corée, Vieil Aino, Hokkaido, Flocons de Neige, Pengyong Corée, Orchidées Blanches, Jaluit, Le Banni, Sud Corée and La Cruche, Mongolie. The international offerings continue with signed limited-edition works by Japanese artist Koichi Sakamoto and a framed Yuki no Kajiya snow blacksmith woodblock.
Other notable offerings include works by R.C. Gorman, Josef Krotter, George Solonevich, Howard Sanden, Harriet Stokes and Joan Henley, a President Jimmy Carter signed “Christmas in Plains” print, fox hunting engravings after George Morland, antique Kangxi porcelain with documentation, International Silver Angelique sterling flatware and a Bardou & Son Paris brass telescope on an oak tripod.
