James Pendergraft devoted a lifetime to collecting from some of the world’s most renowned paleontological sites, including Florida’s Bone Valley, the Badlands of South Dakota, the Atacama Desert of Chile, and Ice Age mammalian fauna of Tarija, Bolivia. His passion for natural history extended well beyond fossils and minerals into fine and graphic art inspired by the natural sciences. Over the years, his discerning eye led him to acquire an eclectic range of ethnographic art from Africa, Papua New Guinea, and the Navajo, with a particular appreciation for bronze and wood carvings. For more than forty years, James operated an international fossil, mineral, and collectibles business, building a collection distinguished by its diversity, character, and connection to cultures and natural history from around the world. This auction offers an opportunity to explore and acquire pieces gathered over decades of dedicated collecting, reflecting James’s enduring curiosity, expertise, and appreciation for the natural world and the artistry of diverse cultures.
