Some houses are furnished. Others are collected.
Welcome to The Laurel Hill Collection, an unusually layered estate auction from a longtime Croton-on-Hudson home where more than fifty years of living, traveling, decorating and collecting have left their mark. And this feels like exactly the right place for it.
Perched in a corner of the Hudson Valley steeped in history, Croton grew from lands once encompassed by the vast Manor of Cortlandt and later became known for its river landscape, great estates, artists, writers, craftsmen and generations of wonderfully individual homes. This house seems to carry that same spirit: rooms filled not with one prescribed style, but with objects acquired because somebody found them beautiful, useful, curious, funny or simply impossible to leave behind.
The result is an auction with real personality.
You’ll find period and vintage furniture, Asian and global decorative arts, brass and metalwork, original and decorative art, mirrors, lighting, garden pieces, folk and ethnographic objects, collectible smalls, sterling silver, vintage leather goods, designer handbags, pottery, glass, architectural accents, practical household finds and plenty of the unexpected.
There are polished pieces and primitive ones. Elegant pieces and eccentric ones. A substantial collection of furnishings shares space with handmade objects, vintage travel pieces, quirky curiosities, beautifully aged brass, unusual wall décor and things that simply make you stop scrolling.
And then there is the large custom dollhouse modeled after the actual home itself — perhaps the perfect emblem for this collection: personal, detailed, a little extraordinary, and connected directly to the house in which all of these objects lived.
The family occupied this home for more than half a century. We suspect the land and surrounding landscape could tell a much longer story.
For now, we're opening the doors.
Come explore Laurel Hill.
