Oliver’s Auction is pleased to present The Collection of Rickey Newton & Estates, an expansive 840-lot gallery auction bringing together Southern antiques, fine and folk art, important pottery, period furniture, silver, decorative arts, Asian works, textiles, art glass, and an exceptional variety of objects collected over generations.

Rickey Newton was a renowned picker and collector in Upstate South Carolina for many years, developing a discerning eye and a deep appreciation for the material culture of the South. His collection reflects a lifetime spent searching for interesting and unusual objects, with a particular love for ironstone, Southern folk art, pottery, country antiques, and Southern decorative arts. This auction offers a rare opportunity to acquire pieces from the collection of a true connoisseur of Southern material.

Highlights include 19th-century Southern furniture; Edgefield and Southern stoneware; folk pottery by Stephen Ferrell, Lanier and Reggie Meaders, Marvin Bailey, and others; Native American and Cherokee baskets and pottery; early American silver; folk art; carved decoys; paintings and works on paper; Chinese and Japanese works; art glass; quilts and coverlets; and distinctive decorative objects.

Among the many individual highlights are a South Carolina bonnet chest, 19th-century Southern inlaid chest, Edgefield Pottersville stoneware, an Audubon Birds of America Carolina Parrot, a signed Civil War-era South Carolina railroad bond, Wolfgang Hoffmann Art Deco seating, Louis Comfort Tiffany glass, early Japanese hanging scrolls, Southern folk art, sterling silver, and an extensive selection of country and primitive furnishings.
