Tate Estate Sales is excited to present a truly exceptional artist and collector’s estate, packed with fine art, studio pottery, signed ceramics, iconic modern design, 19th-century antiques, Asian furnishings, industrial pieces and one-of-a-kind handcrafted objects. This is an extremely artist-heavy collection. Nearly everywhere you look there is something signed, handmade, custom-designed or created by an individual artist or craftsman. The estate contains a tremendous collection of signed stoneware, studio pottery and ceramics, alongside sculpture, works on paper, paintings, prints and unusual decorative objects. The fine art collection includes works by or associated with recognized names including Richard Diebenkorn, Pat Steir, Henry Moore, Ken Eastman and others. There are numerous framed works throughout the estate, and we are continuing to research signatures and artists as the sale is prepared. Design enthusiasts will also find Hans Wegner chairs, Noguchi lighting, Artemide Italian lighting, Mid-Century and contemporary furniture, and an impressive assortment of thoughtfully designed furnishings and objects. Antique highlights include a fantastic 19th-century farm table, a large industrial work table, antique Tansu furniture, Chinese horseshoe chairs, Asian chests and cabinets, and an extensive collection of antique rustic pine furniture with beautiful natural wear and patina — absolutely perfect for today’s Organic Modern and Wabi-Sabi interiors. The collection continues outdoors with architectural ironwork, sculptural garden pieces, trellises, pottery, terracotta and stone planters, outdoor furniture and unusual garden objects. What makes this estate particularly special is the sheer amount of artist-made material. This isn’t a house filled with ordinary mass-produced décor. Much of what you will encounter was signed, commissioned, handmade, studio-produced or selected for its artistic and sculptural qualities. From important names to pieces by lesser-known studio artists waiting to be discovered, this will be an especially fun sale for art collectors, interior designers, dealers, ceramic collectors, Mid-Century enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates craftsmanship and original design.
