Kenneth McCoy began his career in funeral service at a young age, working at Hoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg, Virginia. After earning his degree in Mortuary Science from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in 1974, he returned to Hoy Funeral Home, eventually taking ownership and operating it as McCoy Funeral Home.Throughout his career, Kenneth developed a deep appreciation for the history and traditions of the funeral profession. What began with a few pieces of funerary memorabilia displayed at the funeral home grew into an extensive collection documenting generations of funeral service and mourning customs. Following his retirement in 2017, his passion for collecting only grew. Recognized throughout the region as a knowledgeable funerary historian, Kenneth sought out everything from early advertising and funeral-home memorabilia to caskets, coffins, equipment, and other unusual pieces of funeral history. Among his most ambitious projects was the complete restoration of a Victorian-era horse-drawn hearse, with another restoration underway at the time of his passing. Kenneth is remembered fondly by his longtime friends, fellow collectors, pickers, and the many families he served during his decades in the funeral profession. Farmer Auctions is honored to present the Kenneth McCoy Funeral History Collection to collectors across the country. This remarkable collection represents a lifetime devoted not only to funeral service, but also to preserving the history of the profession for future generations. We hope these pieces find new homes with collectors who will appreciate, preserve, and treasure them as much as Kenneth did. This collection includes: Local Funeral Documents, Advertising and More Antique and Contemporary Embalming Tables A Variety of Adult and Child Caskets Two Victorian Era Viewing Coffins Casket Stands & Church Trucks Sought After Crane & Breed Advertising Paperweights Embalming Fluid Bottles, Tools, and an Embalming Machine Vintage Medical Cabinets Casket Hardware Salesman Samples Post Mortem Photography & last but not least…the Victorian Era Horse Drawn Hearse Note: A lot of the pieces in this collection are large scale.
