Join us for a charming Spring Fairhope sale. This contemporary cottage houses the collection of Fairhope resident, art critic, and curator Mimi Detering. former director of the Gulf Coast, a nationally-distributed journal housed within the University of Houston's English Department/creative writing program. Mimi was the beloved wife of Herman Detering, historian and rare book collector, founder of the Detering Book Gallery, a rare bookstore in the South. His FotoFest exhibition of books and photographs showed the parallel development of psychiatry and photography and broke new ground in the study of clinical uses of imagery. A rancher, Herman was involved with animal psychology studies and methods of natural, non-coercive horsemanship. Adapting these methods to cattle, he pioneered low stress handling for ranchers, writing articles for publications including The Cattleman and The American Brahman Review. His video, "Natural Persuasion," was a first in the field of low-stress herd management. The Deterings collected photographs, prints, books, and ceramics relating to local, national and South American contemporary artists which will be available at the sale. Other treasures include Southern ceramics including Shearwater Pottery and Mary Kirk Kelley ceramics. The estate sale also includes household items, clothing, furniture, yard items, and more. Photos will be uploaded until the sale, so check for updates. Explore and find your treasure!
